Small Moves
These extra touches (with a little
help from a carpenter) give an old
cabinet block a new high-end look
• SMART CHANGES Get the
cabinet doors of one unit removed
for an easy-to-reach open storage.
• STOCK CABINETRY Stack the
two units, one on top of the other,
to create a bookshelf with open and
closed storage.
• PAINT INTERIOR Get the nail
holes filled with wax for a smooth
look. A high-quality primer painted
on the insides coordinates the colour
with the wood stain.
• EXTRA SEATING Have two wall
units installed adjacent to each other
on the floor to create a cozy comer.
Pull the cabinets away from the wall
by a couple of inches and top them
with a wider shelf to create a roomy
seat. Keep lots of cushions.
• ALL TOGETHER Have skirting
added under both cabinets so that
they look like one unit.
• LAMP Have a swing-arm wall
lamp installed for reading light. ■
